Just A Small Celebration…
It’s been ceremony after ceremony this year for the royals as yet another family celebration is penned in their regal diaries. This one, however, is set to be far smaller and way more intimate as the royal family’s tiniest member takes centre stage.
Much to the delight of royal fanatics everywhere, today’s christening of 11-week-old Prince Louis will be the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children step outside the private walls of Kensington Palace as a royal family of five.
Donning the same beautiful cream lace and satin robe that his siblings wore, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child is to be baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury – who also baptised Meghan Markel prior to her marriage to Prince Harry earlier this year.
The small, traditional ceremony will be taking place in the privacy of St James’s Palace at 4pm today and will last just 40 minutes.
Although the guest list has not yet been released, we do know that the Queen and Prince Philip will not be attending, which Buckingham Palace has reportedly said was decided “some time ago” and isn’t due to Prince Philip’s ill-health.
As to be expected, Newlyweds the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be taking time out of their honeymoon period to attend the ceremony, and Kate’s pregnant sister Pippa Middleton will also make an appearance alongside their brother, James Middleton. Of course, Prince Louis’ grandfather, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall will also be in attendance.
Prince Louis, who will be fifth in line to the throne, will receive a strong set of six godparents to help look after him: Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, Mrs Robert Carter and Lucy Middleton.
Like his youngest sibling, Prince George also has seven godparents, while three-year-old Princess Charlotte has only five.
Fingers crossed the Cambridge tots will be on their best behaviour today – no tears, just tiaras. And all the best to little Louis as he officially takes on the pivotal role of royal baby… the third.
