A Star-studded Cast For ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ Revealed
Richard Osman has just announced an all-star cast for the film adaption of his hit debut novel ‘The Thursday Murder Club’.
Big name actors such as Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley will be playing the film’s leads. Famous director Chris Columbus – Home Alone, Mrs Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter movies – is writing and directing the film, while Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment company is producing it.
Quite the line-up!
The ‘Pointless’ host’s debut novel ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ was an instant hit. In fact, it’s the fastest-selling adult crime debut ever.
Set in the fictional Kentish town of Fairhaven, the plot follows a group of friends solving murder mysteries from the comfort of their in a retirement home. What begins as a bit of fun, quickly turns into getting caught up in a real murder close to home.
Richard Osman shared the news and casting list on the latest episode of his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment. The presenter hosts this podcast bi-weekly alongside co-host and journalist Marina Hyde.
Osman said that production will begin “the end of June to September.”
The fourth main character, a retired nurse called Joyce Meadowcroft, is also yet to be cast.
The author then teased listeners when he said: “Joyce, we’re still in negotiations but again the name is the one that people most shout at me in the street.
“Lots more casting to come in the following weeks.”
Richard Osman’s novel was so popular with publishers that it resulted in a 10-way bidding war before being sold to Penguin. The Thursday Murder Club went on to sell around 45,000 copies in its first three days of release in 2020.
All this success was followed by a book series consisting of four novels, so far. This includes ‘The Man Who Died Twice’, ‘The Bullet That Missed’, and ‘The Last Devil to Die’. The series as a whole has sold more than 10 million copies globally.
Fans of the series are highly anticipating a fifth book, which is planned for publication next year.
