Eurovision 2024 UK Representative Olly Alexander Revealed!
Will we finally win the Eurovision Song Contest again next year? Years & Years singer-songwriter, Olly Alexander, will certainly bring the sparkle!
After a colourful performance on Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing final, chart-topping popstar, Olly Alexander, was revealed as the Eurovision 2024 UK Representative.
The Years & Years lead singer, who is rebranding to his name, Olly Alexander, is embarking on a solo career and out for a Eurovision win!
Last year’s competition was held in Liverpool on behalf of the previous year’s winner, Ukraine. The UK entry was Mae Muller with I Wrote A Song, which reached number three on the Official Big Top 40, but missed out on the title of Eurovision winner.
This will be the 68th Eurovision Song Contest and it will be taking over Malmö, Sweden next May. Last year’s Swedish entry, Loreen, won the jury vote with her performance of Tattoo.
The UK hasn’t won Eurovision since 1997 with Katrina and the Waves’ Love Shine a Light. Will Olly bring Eurovision home on a win again?

Katrina and the Waves, “Love Shine a Light”
British rockband, Katrina and the Waves, are best know for their hit song Walking on Sunshine. They sang the UK to Eurovision victory in 1997 with Love Shine a Light, which the band later included in their ninth studio album, Walk on Water.
The 1997 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Dublin, Ireland, and this was the first time we won the contest in 16 years.
Gina G “Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit”
Australian singer Gina G debuted her pop single Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit at the 1996 Eurovision in Oslo, Norway. This was the first single from her debut album, Fresh! which came out a year later.
This bop reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart almost two months after finishing in eighth place at the competition.
Bucks Fizz, “Making Your Mind Up”
British pop group Bucks Fizz, was formed just two month’s prior and entirely for the purpose of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Making Your Mind Up won the 1981 Eurovision and was the band’s debut single. This song and the Eurovision win launched their career. The bubble-gum pop song reached No. 1 in the UK as well as many other countries, eventually selling in excess of four million copies.
