Out Of The Margins Auction
More than 50 famous writers and creatives are auctioning personally annotated first editions to raise money for refugees
If you’ve ever wanted to know what writers really think of their creations (or just want to see some of their doodles), have a look at Out of the Margins. The auction runs online from September 15-October 6, with fifty-five lots beginning at £250.
Some of the contributors include Mark Rylance, who gives in-depth notes on Anthony & Cleopatra; Kate Mosse and her thoughts about The Taxidermist’s Daughter; Tina Fey sharing her sketches for Mean Girls the Musical; and Maxine Peake’s insights on Beryl.
Other well-known people taking part include Richard Curtis, Aaron Sorkin, Martin McDonagh, Stella Duffy, Bryony Lavery, Tom Stoppard and Caryl Churchill.
There is an accompanying free exhibition where members of the public can see these scripts up close running at Christie’s from September 21.
The auction is raising funds for the work done by Good Chance Theatre, who support refugee artists in the UK. After being founded in the Calais Jungle refugee camp eight years ago, the organisation provides programmes that tackle barriers to entry for refugee artists in theatre and art.
