Find Out To Get 47% More Heat From Less Energy!
Amid the cost of living crisis, we’re all concerned about heating bills and looking for ways to offset the rising costs.
New research from heating experts ADEY shows that:
- 62% of homeowners are making dramatic cuts to their spending to pay for their energy bills, including cutting their food bills (60%) and car use (46%)
- 35% couldn’t afford to replace their boiler if it broke down
- 32% have skipped essential maintenance on their boiler and heating system
- 52% are unaware that water quality is the main source of breakdown
ADEY have provided 3 tips to get the most from your heating system this winter, including keeping the water flowing around the system clean. Amazingly, this could increase your heating system’s performance by up to 47% and reduce bills by up to 7% this winter.
Maintenance suffering in spending squeeze
New research among 2,000 homeowners shows the impact of the energy crisis with 62% making serious cutbacks to pay for their energy bills, including reducing food bills (60%), using cars less (46%) and skipping holidays (46%).
Although 26% of people’s boilers are due for replacement and 35% say they simply couldn’t afford to replace it if it broke down this winter, 32% are not maintaining their boiler and heating system. This puts them at increased risk of failure at the coldest time of the year.
Half (52%) didn’t know that the most common cause of breakdown is the water inside the heating system, and very few have ever invested in a filter (7%) or flushed their system (8%).
Get more heat, use less energy, avoid breakdowns
ADEY design, manufacture and supply products and services that significantly improve the effectiveness of heating systems. They are sharing their expertise to help homeowners identify if their heating system could perform better this winter.
Colin Yearp, a Gas Safe registered heating engineer for 35 years, has spent the last seven years at ADEY training plumbers and gas engineers in the latest best practice for protecting heating systems.
He says, “We want to help people understand how to get more heat from their central heating system, use less energy, and prevent costly breakdowns.
“By just improving the water quality inside the system, you can save up to 7% a year on gas usage and extend the life of the boiler by up to 7 years.”
ADEY’s tips to get the most from your central heating
1. Control the temperature in each room using the thermostat on the radiator. Turn the dial up to 4 or 5 to get more heat in rooms you spend most time in, or down to 1 or 2 if the room’s not in use so much.
2. Book a boiler service every year with a Gas Safe registered plumber (find one on the Gas Safe Register). They will check that everything is calibrated correctly. Your boiler warranty may not be valid without it.
3. Do all you can to keep the water flowing around your system clean. Ask your plumber to test the water. If it’s dirty they can clean it and take action to stop the sludge in your radiators from coming back. A clean system is more efficient, which could save 7% on gas usage, give out up to 47% more heat than a dirty system, and prolong the life of your boiler by up to 7 years.
