Get your home sparkling clean for a stress-free festive season

Christmas is a time to relax and have fun with family and friends. However, in a poll for Marigold, 28% of Brits say they spend more time cleaning over the Christmas period than actually enjoying the festivities.

Don’t let the Christmas pre-clean take away your Christmas sparkle! Instead follow these handy tips from leading cleaning brand Marigold.

1. The hardest-working area? The hob

Your hob will be working overtime during the festive season, with bubbling saucepans and pots creating all sorts of spills and splashes. The good news is that it couldn’t be easier to get your hob sparkling again with the Marigold Let it Shine! Microfibre cloths.

These thick, absorbent cloths harness the deep cleaning power of microfibre to remove spills, splashes and grease. They come in a handy pack of four cloths, so you can use one with soapy water to deep clean and then a dry cloth, to buff the hob dry, to a brilliant shine.

Each cloth is made of lots of tiny microscopic fibres, 50 times thinner than a human hair, so they can get into even the smallest crevice for a thorough clean.

2. Where guests spend most time – living room, kitchen and toilet

The Marigold Let It Shine! Microfibre Cloths are also great for quickly dusting and wiping down surfaces. These versatile cloths can be used wet or dry and thanks to the deep cleaning power of microfibre, they can also remove over 99% of bacteria with just water. In lab tests, the cloths removed E. coli & S. aureus from laminate countertops and ceramic tiles.

They come in a pack of four different coloured cloths, so you can allocate each cloth to a different task or room, to avoid cross-contamination. They’re also machine washable, so you can re-use them time and time again!

3. Don’t be let down by the loo

More than half (57%) of Brits admit to judging their friends and relatives’ homes based on a dirty toilet. So make sure you don some Marigold Longer Bathroom Gloves, with longer cuffs (for extra protection) and get scrubbing.

Add two cups of vinegar and one cup of bicarbonate of soda to the toilet bowl to remove any stains and marks. Let the solution sit for 10-30 minutes, then scrub with a toilet brush and flush to rinse.

4. Tackle the washing-up as you go

Dirty dishes and Christmas go together like mistletoe and wine. It’s easy to let them stack up, so by the time you’re ready to serve your Christmas lunch, every surface is covered.

The trick is to tackle the dirty crockery and cookware as you go, with a good old sink wash – and it couldn’t be quicker and easier with Marigold. This will leave the dishwasher empty for your guests’ plates and cutlery, after they’ve finished eating – leaving you free to dive straight into the board games and present opening!

Make sure you have your Marigold Extra Life Kitchen Gloves at the ready. They’re three layers thick for extra durability and protection and have a great grip, so you can handle your delicate dishes and glassware safe with confidence.

Dishes with baked-on remnants from your roast don’t need to be soaked – instead, pop your trays in the sink with some warm, soapy water and give them a scrub with the Marigold Confidential Cleaning Me Softly Non-Scratch Scourer.

Its special scouring surface breaks down burned-on foods with ease, without damaging delicate surfaces. Use only when wet and test first on an inconspicuous area

Et voila, with a quick dry, they can be put away, leaving valuable counter space free for festive food!

5. Deal with spills quickly before they turn into stains

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few spills of the wine, gravy and grease variety. Keep a Marigold Let It Shine! Microfibre cloth to hand … that way you can deal with spills quickly, with little fuss. These thick, absorbent cloths are also machine washable, so you can wash and re-use them again and again.
