Six Bad Hair Habits
It’s easy to get into bad beauty habits! Katie Allan, Founder of MAYFIVE Hair points out the top culprits for ruining our hair. Here’s what to avoid:
Hot Showers
Hot Showers feel great but can also dry out your hair and scalp! If this is something you cannot resist, be sure to use a shampoo and conditioner to moisturise.
Dirty Brushes
Clean those brushes!!! A bit of warm water and shampoo to take of any debris will work perfectly – other wise you will be brushing your clean hair with a tools that have also been in your hair after a sweaty work out!
Tight Hair Styles
Tight ponytails and top knots can cause traction alopecia, but if you use an elastic band this will also cause damage to the fibres when it is up. I recommend a traditional scrunchie or coil hair tie.
Sunglasses
Of course the best place to put your sunglasses so you don’t lose them is on your head – however if the area that goes over the nose has metal in it, it is likely to catch in your hair and pull out strands. This will result to breakage on your front hairline.
Over-heating
Once you have washed your hair it is filled with nutrients from your shampoo, conditioner, leave in products. Once you apply electrical heat to the hair these tend to leave the hair. If you then re apply heat to your hair with out washing it – you are likely to cause irreversible damage to the cuticle.
Too Much Dry Shampoo
We all love using Dry Shampoo, however using it in excess can result to a dry flaky scalp. I’d recommend using it for no more than 2 days before washing.
